It takes much long to settle in a new home. But we are getting there. This week would be about some books that I have been reading recently. The stories, like other great ones, have changed my worldview again.
Reading list
Good to great - Jim Collins
I am still working on putting my notes together. Even though I am not a note-taking person, this book broke my ‘rule’. If you are curious about how business went from good to great and contemplate how it can apply to personal growth, I highly recommend this book.
It can be a bit boring for people who don’t like to see numbers and stock market graphs but the stories are fascinating to me (as I am currently obsessed with business).
Untamed - Glennon Doyle
I have seen this book on Instagram for way too many times. There was a nudge to tell me to read it. I have been enjoying from the start and it is possible that I could finish it in a week.
Doyle’s son and younger daughters were hanging out with friends at home. Doyle wanted to check in on them and so she asked if they were hungry. The boys keep their eyes on the TV and said yes without a doubt. The girls looked at each other and somehow letting a girl speak for them, “We’re fine, thank you.”
The boys looked inside themselves. The girls looked outside themselves. [Women] forgot how to know when [they] learned how to please. This is why [women] live hungry.
From that point on, I want to read every book that can help me to unlearn every bit of rules that the society puts on us at a young age. Untamed would definitely be another book that leaves me much food for thought.
Stories in non-fiction can be great to teach us about things that are invisible to us, whether it is about business, society or humanity.
Transurfing in 78 Days - Vadim Zeland
It blew my mind even though I am only half way through. I have been watching Law of attraction for a few years. But this book articulates the concepts in a way that I now understand.
Sometimes when circumstances stack up against you, it is very difficult to be content but from a purely practical point of view, there is simply no benefit in expressing dissatisfaction. Don’t take bad news to heart. If you don’t let it into your heart, you’ll keep it out of your life. Close the door on bad news and open up to good news.
Cinnamon dream
It started after midnight faded away.
The forest creatures welcomed me
wings open under red red skies.
We danced with maple leaves
and feasted on red velvet cake.
I dived into my hot chocolate mug,
befriended an unusual pumpkin,
played trick or treat with naked trees;
then fell asleep inside the spice rack.
Living my very best surreal life
at quarter to alarm o'clock
delighted in my cinnamon dream.
