Letters for Creatives #11: Self-publishing on Amazon
Plus selling art on Instagram, taking advantage of viral content and more
Hello, I am Celeste. Each week I write about marketing, creativity and writing. The first interview with a writer for Interview with an artist series can be found here. In other news, I made my own website.
The archive of past issues can be foundĀ here.
There are a lot of gems in this week medley as I have been putting this together for a few weeks. Letās dive in.
Creative entrepreneur
Chris Hau made a video that he talked about being an entrepreneur and a creative at the same time. I find his tips very useful if you want to start freelancing or writing for clients or companies.
Selling art on Instagram
Mason Saltarrelli had been working with the galleries to sell his paintings until New York went into lockdown. People asked him where to buy his artwork through email or Instagram and he would refer them to galleries he worked with. To fulfill the demand in lockdown, he started to sell his paintings through Instagram DM for $333 each.
Take advantage of your content when it goes viral
This tweet used the example of the TikTok video that the guy had a bottle of juice in his hand when he was skateboarding. The video went viral and got millions of views.
He made his own merch and sold a t-shirt with a print from his viral video. He earned $30,000 within the first 5 days.
When your post, tweet or blog post went viral, do something about it. It is great if you can create your merch, product or publish your book on Amazon to take advantage of this rare opportunity.
Self-publishing on Amazon
I heard that a lot of people struggle with making the layout right when you self-publish on Amazon. Guess what I found by accident? Two articles about publishing paperback and e-book on Amazon.
Shaunta Grimes shared her experience self-publishing her book on Amazon and shared some insights on her experience. She plans to create an extra income stream on Amazon.
Wall of love
This tool helps you to show all the reviews and testimonials of your products (books, courses, products, etc) and service in one place. You can share them on social media platforms to increase credibility and increase sales for your products and service.
Thomas Bevan
I did not know Tom until I stumbled upon his Twitter. I found myself reading his tweets when it was midnight. I find his insights on different topics in his newsletter and the comment section of his newsletter very entertaining.
Call me cerebral but nothing excites me more than an intellectual conversation and learning from someone wise. Reading his newsletter became one of my better coping mechanisms while sitting on a roller coaster of life. If you are not convinced to subscribe to his newsletter yet, read one of his newsletter essays.
If I have to choose my favourite essay, it would be The Soaring Twenties. He pointed out how history can rhyme (I stole the idea and wrote this poem) but not repeat itself. He reflects that a group of artists and writers would emerge in the current decade and become the Hemingway or Picasso of this decade.
Artists and writers have to do what we got to do and put ourselves out there. Otherwise, nobody will see your work. This great article expands on this topic and gets more people to see your work. If you are thinking about sharing your creative work on social media, this is the permission to go for it.
I value your feedback, suggestions, constructive critiques, compliments, etc. If you have anything creative or interesting that you want to send me, send it to celestetsang@gmail.com
Please answer a few questions for this questionnaire to improve the newsletter. It would help me understand what you want to read about. Feel free to leave any suggestion or constructive critiques. I appreciate your time.
Thank you for reading!
