Letters for Creatives #18: Resources for aspiring authors and creators
The passion economy and ways to create content

Resource for aspiring authors
Leah Campbell wrote an article on establishing yourself as an author. She showed the process before, during and after you publish your book. She wrote an in-depth guide for you if you are interested in self-publishing through Amazon KDP. She showed the publishing process from start to finish in this article.
Resource for creators
Li Jin has a YouTube channel Means of Creations where she interviewed creators and CEO on the topic of passion economy, where people make a living by doing what they love. She created Side Hustle Stack providing resources for creators in different niches, such as content creators, writers and podcasters. She writes a newsletter for creators and my favourite one is an article on building the middle class of the creator economy.
Passion economy and true fans
This article touches on how you can turn your followers to true fans. Kevin Kelly defined true fans as fans who would buy everything you create and support in every way. Taylor Swift is very good at this.
To turn your followers to true fans, you need to make quality content that your audience will love. You can create content that:
Entertain them
Make them smarter and learn something
Keep them informed
Make them money
Make them feel connected
It will help you capture the attention of your audience if you can combine two or three elements. There are some YouTubers who can entertain and teach their audience at the same time. Their growth on YouTube is much faster than those who only create content that only entertains their audience.
Taylor Swift created a nation that makes her fans feel connected to her and her stans. It is without a doubt that she released 2 surprise albums in the worst year for the world. She is exceptional in the way she does everything in her music career. It is no doubt that we can steal her ideas and tweak them to our own.
Featured poem
I released January prompts last week. Karan wrote an incredible piece using my prompt ‘generosity, vibrancy, strength and wisdom – Topaz’. It is amazing to read poems that are inspired by my prompts. Looking forward to reading more poems or prose inspired by the prompts from you.
She’s a masterful dancer that sets the room
alight and challenges the chandelier –
shimmering beautiful,
sending luminescence ricocheting
in crystal sparks, cascading
glitter on the floor.
Her topaz eyes hypnotise
all who see her spin and
twirl. She lives like tomorrow doesn't
exist – all there is
is this masquerade and those who await
her kiss. But jealousy has a bitter bite; after
sunset it sprouts teeth. Their tongues,
forked with fury, tell their twisted
tales and trap her with
deceit. This dance is done, her light
extinguished, glitter turned to
dust. Her shattered edges glisten
crimson as she
